While a residential hoistway is designed to be a clear path, rare circumstances can lead to obstructions or unauthorized access. The Guardian is a sophisticated solution designed to manage these unexpected events and is our answer for ultimate peace of mind.

Securing the path of travel.

The Guardian system is designed to manage those rare, unexpected circumstances where an object might enter the hoistway or unauthorized access might occur. We believe the vertical shaft of an elevator should remain a completely protected environment, free from the worry of misplaced items or obstructions.

Under normal operating conditions, a standard elevator is designed to travel between floors regardless of what may be in the hoistway. Without a secondary protection system, obstructions can cause significant issues, potentially leading to mechanical issues or injury.

Standard Operation

Traditional lifts may continue to move despite an obstruction, which can lead to system failure or personal risk.

How the Guardian technology works

Active Hoistway Scanning

The system utilizes advanced detection technology installed at the top and bottom of the elevator cab. This invisible barrier monitors the hoistway in real-time as the car moves to identify any obstructions or unauthorized access.

Automatic Braking

If the detection field is interrupted, the controller receives an immediate signal. Power is severed to the drive and the brake is applied instantly to bring the cab to a safe, controlled stop.

"A proactive approach to unusual events."

While hoistway obstructions are rare, the Guardian ensures that if they do occur, your home elevator system is equipped to respond immediately and safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this be added to an existing elevator? Yes. The Guardian can be retrofitted to many existing systems currently in operation throughout Ontario, providing an essential secondary layer of protection for older installations.

What exactly does it detect? The detection sensors are tuned to identify any solid object or unauthorized access that enters the monitored field, ensuring the shaft is clear for the elevator's path of travel.

Is it difficult to reset after a detection? No. Once the object or obstruction has been cleared from the hoistway, the system can be verified and reset to resume normal operation.
